Public benefits

Purpose 1: Promote for the public benefit in around the city of Belfast good practice in public health and primary health care. Benefit – Improved knowledge, settings and environments to support health and well-being and reduced levels of disease. These benefits are demonstrated through the publication of health reports and monitoring of visibility

of health and inequalities in public policies. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. Purpose 2: To relieve poverty, hardship and distress for those living and working within the project area. Benefit – Improved knowledge and skills and health and well-being outcomes and reduced levels of inequalities in health. These are demonstrated through research and evaluation and the production of a City Health Profile which monitors previous levels of health outcomes and inequalities in health, and also through training programmes/information and feedback from engagement with communities. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. Purpose 3: To advance education relating to the benefits of good health and to the implications for all those living or working in the project area of poor health amongst individuals, agencies, authorities, voluntary and community organisations, academic institutions, companies, firms and trade unions. Benefit - Improved levels of knowledge and health literacy amongst individuals and organisations living and working within the project areas. These are demonstrated through evaluation of training programmes and community information sessions and public seminars. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. There are no private benefits to any individuals connected with the organisation other than the payments of salaries to staff which is a necessary requirement in order to provide our services and therefore incidental to the carrying out of the purposes. The beneficiaries are people living and working in Belfast who experience poor health and individuals, agencies, voluntary and community organisations, academic institutions companies, firms and trade unions who are working to improve knowledge and skills, health outcomes and reduce levels of inequalities in the health of the people in the city of Belfast.

What your organisation does

1. Provides skills training, information sessions for people working and living in Belfast to support decisions that promote good health and improve health and well being. 2. Shares knowledge and good practice from the World Health Organisation and from other European Healthy Cities with agencies, authorities, voluntary and community

organisations, academic institutions, companies, firms and trade unions. 3. Produces briefing and information guidance that provide evidence on the determinants of health and inequalities in health; produces health profiles on the determinants of health for all agencies and monitors inequalities in health. 4. Engages with communities and agencies in Belfast to identify training and information needs and arrange programmes to meet these needs.
