Public benefits

The benefits that flow from these purposes are: 1. Raised awareness, and an increased sentiment in favour, of equality and diversity; 2. Assisting the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of race, religion and ethnicity and combating prejudice. 3. A safer, more stable and cohesive community. 4. Reduced social isolation. 5.

Increased knowledge and understanding of the range of, and the means of access to, support services available to recently arrived migrants. 6. Raised awareness and appreciation of different cultures. 7. Improved quality of life for families and individuals. These benefits can be evidenced by community surveys of people's attitudes on race and community relations, records of instances of racist or sectarian attacks in the area of benefit, measures of integration within society, the take up of support services by those from a minority ethnic background and participation in events organised by the Welcome Project. The beneficiaries of the purpose are Minority Ethnic population of Lisburn. No harm or private benefit arises from these purposes.

What your organisation does

The Welcome Project provides advisory, information, advocacy and other support services to migrant workers and their families and others from a ethnic minority background. Also family days, cultural events and activities for young people are organised with the aim of promoting inclusion, integration and equality. Training courses, parenting

programmes and arts and crafts workshops have also been delivered.

Charitable purposes

To promote the benefit of minority ethnic newcomers in the City of Lisburn (hereinafter described as "the area of benefit") without distinction of age, gender, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants; To promote cultural diversity and community cohesion through inclusion of all individuals and groups.
