Public benefits

Coleraine Sure Start Partnership works for the benefit of the public who are parents, parents-to-be and children under the age of four in the Wards of Ballysally, Cross Glebe, Central and Churchlands, as well as the housing estates of Millburn and Windyhall. Benefit One (i) supporting early bonding between parents and their children and enabling

the early identification and support of children with emotional and behavioural difficulties; The benefit which flows from early bonding between parents and children is that parents will be more confident and equipped to meet their child’s needs and to access further support as required. This is evidenced by feedback from parents in evaluation forms. There is no risk or harm to this benefit. Benefit Two (ii) supporting parents in caring for their children to promote healthy development before and after birth; In providing support to parents before and after the birth of their child, they benefit by making more informed choices on their health and that of their baby. This leads to parents being more confident in their ability and has helps improve rates such as breastfeeding and smoking cessation. This is evident in feedback and evaluations from parents and health professionals. There is no risk or harm to this benefit. Benefit Three (iii) encouraging high quality environments and child care that promotes early learning, providing stimulating and enjoyable play experiences, improving language skills and ensuring early identification and support of children with special needs; By providing high quality play environments, children are benefiting through improvements in speech, language and communication, socialisation with other children and preparation for school. This is evident from parental feedback and reports from early years settings and schools. There is no risk or harm to this benefit. Benefit Four (iv) developing the capacity and skills of parents and parents-to-be in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society. Parents are benefiting by attending training and services which help them improve their own learning, many of whom become volunteers, access further training and education or employment. This is evidenced in parent feedback and evaluations. There is no risk or harm to this benefit. Benefit Five To promote a community development approach to empowering families, and adopting a collaborative approach with partners and other stakeholders where possible. Through collaboration a referral process has been established and parents benefit from easy access to all services which they require, therefore reducing anxiety and stress. This is evidenced in parent feedback and feedback from other professionals. There is no risk or harm to this benefit. The only private benefit to Trustees may be through attendance at training which may then be used in other settings or organisations.
