Public benefits

The Direct Benefits which flow from the purpose include; The direct provision of specialised disabled equipment to persons in need, improved physical health (such as circulation and muscle tone from using Motomeds, or for example the access to shower facilities via the provision by Sp.I.N.I. of hoists and shower chairs), enabled access to otherwise

inaccessible buildings, beds, pools and other facilities through the use of ramps, hoists etc. as well as access to public events through the receipt of wheelchair tickets to such events. Further benefits include the access to peer support and advice to families and carers. This enables improved care for and support their disabled loved ones and patients, promotes mutual well being for the disabled persons and their carers and allows physiotherapy to be undertaken at home. The Direct Benefits can be demonstrated through the numbers of persons benefiting from access by ramps, hoists etc, feedback from the beneficiaries and our continued relationship with healthcare centres and providers such as Musgrave Hospital. There are no fees charged to beneficiaries, although many subsequently give a small donation in their gratitude. There are no harms arising from our purposes which would outweigh the benefits; all equipment provided is the same as the clients would access in hospital under the supervision of physiotherapists and trained care staff. This mitigates any risk of harm. There are no private benefits to any of the organisation’s trustees/volunteers. There are, of course, benefits to any manufacturers or suppliers from whom equipment is purchased but this is necessary and clearly incidental to the carrying out of our purpose. The beneficiaries are any persons in need by reason of spinal cord injury, their families and carers.

What your organisation does

Sp.I.N.I. provides specialised disabled equipment directly to those in need within Northern Ireland- who are disabled due to a spinal injury. Specifically it provides and delivers Motomeds, hoists and ramps and other disabled equipment - either or a short term bases (24hrs) to long term (5 year lease), directly to those in need. It also finances

several disabled group events throughout the year to promote mutual well being for the disabled persons and their carers. These are paid for by Sp.I.N.I. and allow groups of disabled spinal injury sufferers to attend concerts and the cinema etc, in a support group environment. It also liaises with Musgrave Park Hospital Spinal Injury unit in Belfast - by providing patients with needed equipment within Musgrave and also to take home with them the necessary equipment to allow good care and physio-therapy to be undertaken at each patients home, once they are ready to leave Musgrave and return home. They also provide advice and various other lawful activities that are necessary for the attainment of all the different purposes set out earlier.
