Public benefits

Purpose 1 - The relief of those in need by reason of trauma, particularly but not exclusively those who have been bereaved or injured by the Omagh bomb through the provision of, or assistance in the provision of, facilities and services directed at improving their conditions of life; in particular those aimed at improving health or education. The

direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the availability of a venue for the beneficiaries to meet and support each other in remembrance and to have their stories acknowledged and told. This leads to improved health and well-being, increased opportunities to socialise and better cope with life. Further direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved rights of victims and survivors, improved perception of how the public, the law and the state deal with victims and improved treatment, care for and perception of future terrorism victims. These benefits will be evidenced by the number of sessions delivered and the number of clients availing of services, verbal feedback from users and independent evaluations from funders. A potential harm arising from this purpose is that service users may relive and remember the events of the trauma but in these cases peer support is on hand and professional help can be brought in to support the client – this ensures that harm is outweighed by the benefits. The charity’s beneficiaries are victims of trauma, particularly those affected by the Omagh bomb and other terrorist atrocities people. Primarily we deal with people from the Omagh District Council area but have close alliances with victims of bombs in the Republic of Ireland and Spain. A private benefit flowing from this purpose may arise if a trustee avails of therapies/ social opportunities in the venue. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose 2 - To provide facilities in the interests of social welfare, recreation or other leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said beneficiaries The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the availability of a venue for the beneficiaries to meet and socialise together in remembrance and to have their stories acknowledged and told. This leads to improved health and well-being, increased opportunities to socialise and better cope with life. These benefits will be evidenced by the number of events, verbal feedback from service users and independent evaluations from funders. We do not anticipate any harm leading from this purpose.
