Public benefits

Purpose (a) To render aid, financial or otherwise, to members their widows and/or dependants who are in needy circumstances or in serious difficulties. The benefit which flows from this purpose is the relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. This benefit can be

demonstrated by the use of funds through the provision of financial grants used to provide basic living essentials such as heat, food, and clothing and towards the supply of medical aides, clinical support and treatment. The intended beneficiaries of this purpose are those members who continue or who have served in The Royal Irish Regiment and its’ Antecedent Regiments along with their widows and/or dependants. There is no potential for any harm as a result of this purpose being carried out. No-one gains a private benefit as a result of the purpose being carried out. Purpose (b) To assist members to obtain suitable employment in civilian life or to improve their chances of success in their civilian employment. The benefit which flows from this purpose is advancement of education and improved job prospects helping members become self-sufficient by giving them a hand up. This benefit can be demonstrated by the use of funds to pay for further education, training courses and associated licenses necessary to gain employment or improve their job prospects. The intended beneficiaries of this purpose are those members who continue or who have served in The Royal Irish Regiment and its’ Antecedent Regiments along with their dependents who are in the transition to civilian life. There is no potential for any harm as a result of this purpose being carried out. No-one gains a private benefit as a result of the purpose being carried out. Purpose (c) To provide opportunities for members to keep in touch through organised activities and especially as between serving and ex-serving members. The benefit which flows from this purpose is the promotion of community development and the maintaining of cultural and heritage traditions. This benefit can be demonstrated by the use of funds towards the cost of Battlefield Tours, Battle Honour Commemorations and Parades and public community engagement events. The intended beneficiaries of this purpose are those members who continue or who have served in The Royal Irish Regiment and its’ Antecedent Regiments along with their dependents. There is no potential for any harm as a result of this purpose being carried out. No-one gains a private benefit as a result of the purpose being carried out. Purpose (d) To foster and further in whatever way may seem desirable the well-being of the Regiment. The benefit which flows from this purpose is advancement of citizenship or community development. This benefit can be demonstrated by the use of funds for community based projects such as sports and recreational facilities to improve conditions for serving members and their families and those retired members living in the vicinity. The intended beneficiaries of this purpose are those members who continue or who have served in The Royal Irish Regiment and its’ Antecedent Regiments along with their dependents. There is no potential for any harm as a result of this purpose being carried out. No-one gains a private benefit as a result of the purpose being carried out.

What your organisation does

The Royal Irish Regiment Benevolent Fund disburses grants to those deemed in need of help in the form of financial assistance, medical assistance or advice. A sub committee of Trustees meeting fortnightly to consider each application based on information provided by trained caseworkers. The Trustees are mindful that the activities are carried out

in accordance with its charitable objectives and are for the purpose of public benefit in terms of both serving and former members of The Royal Irish Regiment and its' Antecedent Regiments.
