Public benefits

Mid & East Antrim CAS exists to provide a free, independent, confidential and impartial information, advice, advocacy and representation service to the citizens of Co. Antrim. In so doing, we value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination. Our service aims are to provide the advice people need for the problems they face, and

equally, to improve the policies and practices that affect people’s lives. Our Trustees believe that all our purposes satisfy elements of the public requirement. Purpose One. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include:- Maximising the income of all our clients in need, whether they are in work or out of work. Reducing the levels of stress and anxiety of those in the area of benefit. Providing quality information, advice and advocacy to those on low incomes or living in a debt situation. These benefits will be evidenced in the following way:- Number of clients that we assist to claim Social Security Benefits, amount of income generated on an annual basis, amount of debt we have dealt with on an annual basis, feedback by way of annual client satisfaction surveys and outcomes of our Social Policy work. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are those residing in Co. Antrim. A private benefit to our Trustees may arise as a result of training in Governance, Finance and Human resources. Via this training, our Trustees will gain skills and experience that may be transferable to other settings. However, these benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Purpose Two. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include:- Claiming welfare benefits for those who have a physical, mental, learning and sensory disability, and those suffering from long-term illness. Providing advocacy and tribunal representation to clients suffering from physical, mental, learning and sensory disability, and those suffering from long-term illness. These benefits will be evidenced in the following way:- Number of clients that we assist to claim Disability and Sickness Benefits, number of clients we provide representation to at Social Security, Disability and Medical Appeals Tribunals, amount of income generated on an annual basis on behalf of our beneficiaries, feedback by way of annual client satisfaction surveys, outcomes of our Social Policy work and external reports on the number of tribunals that we represented at, and the outcome of this work. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are those people residing in the Co. Antrim area. A private benefit to our Trustees may arise as a result of training in Governance, Finance and Human resources. Via this training, our Trustees will gain skills and experience that may be transferable to other settings. However, these benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries Purpose Three. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include: Training of Volunteers from the area of benefit. Providing training, information and Community Education seminars to people in the area of benefit in relation to their Welfare Rights and Entitlements. These benefits will be evidenced through: The number of Volunteers trained each year, the number of citizens in our area of benefit attending training, information and Community Education seminars each year and evaluations from citizens attended training, information and Community Education seminars each year. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are people residing in Co. Antrim. A private benefit to Volunteers may arise as a result of training provided to them. Via this training Volunteers will gain skills and experience that is transferable to other settings. However, these benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

We provide free and impartial advice to clients on a range of issues such as housing, tax, immigration, disability related issues, and employment by face to face appointments or by telephone. We also offer support and assistance in navigating the welfare benefits system by making telephone calls or completing applications on behalf of clients who

struggle with communication or literacy. We complete benefit calculations to ensure clients are in receipt of the correct entitlements, and maximise the income of our clients. We make referrals and sign post clients to other agencies which are appropriate to their needs. We work in partnership with other agencies and charities to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients
