What your organisation does

The organisation was set up with the broad aim to advance education in the Irish-language and culture among children and adults, to promote community education, language and cultural programmes, thereby meeting a demand from the growing Irish Language Sector. Our aim is to provide a broad based community programme within the local community that

incorporates the key pillars of community development, capacity building and local empowerment. We aim to ensure that the programmes are all encompassing meeting the needs of a range of age groups prioritising language, education, personal development, cultural projects, play & recreation. A further aim of the organisation to is to support, develop and encourage local voluntary involvement in all our programmes thus developing the local skill base. We provide training and development opportunities for volunteers supporting them into employment and further education. On a seasonal and annual basis we organise large scale festival events which are attended by people from Belfast and attract many international visitors. Scoil Samraidh Mhic Reachtain has received a number of awards of excellence including the Aisling Awards and is recognised as one of the largest Irish Language community festivals in Ireland.
