Public benefits

Purpose 1 To promote community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities, equipment, supervision, and training in a wide range of water and land based sports and activities. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 1 include: • a healthier community which enjoys a healthy lifestyle and improved health outcomes • an

active community which enjoys enhanced levels of participation in sports and physical activity • a more inclusive community which enjoys sports facilities on its doorstep These benefits are (will be) demonstrated through a review of uptake and user numbers, alongside feedback from users. The purposes of our charity may lead to the following harm: the pursuit of adventurous outdoor activities including water based activities involved an element of risk. Risk is mitigated by carrying out a risk assessment for activities and implementing a rigorous health and safety regime. The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is the employment of staff required to deliver activity programmes, which is in itself this is incidental and necessary because the purpose could not be achieved otherwise. Purpose 2 To conserve, protect and improve the physical and natural environment. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 2 include: • a more attractive environment which creates a feel-good factor and encourages people to get outdoors, through the creation of a more diverse range of habitats which are healthy and self sustaining and a reduction in activities which impact negatively on the environment, including gorse fires, fly-tipping and inappropriate use of motorised vehicles (e.g. quads and scramblers) These benefits are (will be) demonstrated by a range of measures including a review of physical improvements, recording of species including flora and fauna, volunteer numbers, alongside feedback from users. The realisation of this purpose of our charity is unlikely lead to the harm: other than prevent types of behaviour which are anti-social (gorse fires, vandalism, fly-tipping, unauthorised use of motorised vehicles). The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is the employment of staff required to deliver environmental programmes, which is in itself this is incidental and necessary because the purpose could not be achieved otherwise. Purpose 3 To advance the education of the public regarding: (1) The natural environment and heritage of the Creggan Country Park and surrounding area (2) Sustainability, biodiversity, energy conservation and recycling The direct benefits which flow from purpose 3 include: • a more informed community which enjoys a heightened awareness of the various aspects of the heritage of the Creggan Country Park site and its surrounding area, including the history, natural and cultural heritage. • a community which enjoys better awareness of the importance of biodiversity in our lives, and the life of the planet. • a more aware community which understands the importance to conserve and reuse resources and energy, for both environmental and economic sustainability. These benefits are (will be) demonstrated through a review of uptake and user numbers of workshops and activities, alongside feedback from users. The realisation of this purpose of our charity would appear to be unlikely to cause harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is the employment of staff required to deliver programmes, which is incidental and necessary because the purpose could not be achieved otherwise.
