Public benefits

The purpose of our organisation is; To advance the education of school age children in Drumahoe, Co Derry/Londonderry and the wider Derry City Council area by providing care facilites for school age children after school hours and during school holidays and to provide all necessary transport as and when required for the poupose of collecting

children from schools and as otherwise required from time to time. The direct benefits which flow from our purpose are that; Children are provided with a safe environment in which to develop their physical, psychological and social skills using a holistic approach. The children are encouraged to engage in both structured and unstructured play in which they learn the importance of sharing and communicating. They develop their ability to work on their own or as part of a group. The children are able to mix and play with children from different cultures, religions and socio economic backgrounds. The children take part in and benefit from physical activities and sports and are taught the importance of adopting a healthy diet with all snacks and drinks provided being healthy and nutritious. In line with social services registration, children are provided with a wide range of socially inclusive, physically active and mentally stimulating activities. The children gain an understanding of the value of communicating and working together to achieve common goals. The children learn about racism, disability, discrimination and the importance of respect and inclusion of all children regardless of their culture, colour, creed or physical abilities. This is evidenced by; Feedback from parents who have said that their children have developed and become more confident and outgoing. Children develop friendships from all sides of the community. We have received public funding from various sources which shows that our work is beneficial to our community. Our service has grown with more children attending since we moved to our new premises from a registration of 27 to 57. Is there any harm flowing from our purpose There is no harm flowing from our purpose. The beneficiaries of our charity are; School age children and families of these children in the Drumahoe, Waterside area and the wider Derry City Council area. The only private benefits flowing from our purpose are that parents who join our committee must attend courses in good governance as part of social services and funders directives. Staff must attend training courses to develop the skills needed in their positions. These skills are transferrable but are essential in order for the club to carry out its purposes. These are necessary and incidental because in order for the club to function, the skills are needed.

What your organisation does

We provide care facilities for 62 children on a daily basis, monday to friday. we open at 2pm weekdays but during the summer and school holidays, we open at 8am. Children are collected from their schools at 2pm, 3pm and when activities are taking place, 4pm. They are brought to the club where they are given a snack and then go to their seperate

rooms. We operate 3 rooms, P1-2, P3-4 and P5-7. During the summer we cater for yr8 and 9 students as they are still too young to be at home all day. There is a supervisor and playworkers in each room. The planning of activities and break is carried out with the involvement of the children. All activities are age appropriate. We have an sports hall and a play park, plus wide open pitches to organise activities so that their physical well being is taken care of as well as their social well being. Parents then collect their children from us at whatever time suits. During the summer our activities are much more extensive and would also involve trips off site.
