Public benefits
Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead
to harm. The benefit is for children at Knockevin Special School Downpatrick. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm. The benefit is for children at Knockevin Special School Downpatrick. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
Our organisation is made up of parents and staff from Knockevin Special School. As a group we try and involve all of the staff ,families and local community in our activities. We meet at least once each term looking at how we can support the pupils and the school. We arrange fundraising events. We update our work on PSA Facebook page and in direct
communication to families. We like to feedback how we use the money raised by fundraising events. The local community is involved in many of our activities. Each year there is a FunRun organised by Knockevin PSA.The local business community in Downpatrick and surrounding towns are supportive of this event and likewise PSA purchases provisions required from the local traders.Events are cross-community and are often supported by children and young people from many of the local schools. This affords an opportunity to integrate our special young people with the wider community and for the community to experience the richness of knowing these special pupils,
