Public benefits
The Company intends to benefit the inhabitants and in particular but not exclusively children and young people aged 4 – 18 resident in the City of Derry/Londonderry and its surrounding environs. The directors will seek to strive to ensure the maximum availability of the facilities to the widest possible section of the general public in the City of
Derry/Londonderry. Access to the Company’s indoor facility is offered to all members of the community regardless of race, religion or social background. The benefits flowing from the promotion of amateur sport, are the encouragement of youth participation in amateur sport through the provision of a safe environment for children to learn and participate in football and other sports. The artificial playing surface allows for the playing of multiple sports and recreational activities capable of improving physical and mental health. The playing of football provides significant health benefits to children who will benefit from improvements to their physical, mental, emotional and social capabilities. Furthermore, young players can through the playing of football and other recreational activities, benefit from improved self-esteem and personal development. The promotion of such benefits is considered crucial to the fulfilment of the Company’s community development mission through improving the conditions of life for the beneficiaries. Such improvements can be made through the use of sport, and in particular football, as a vehicle for community development, with particular benefits arising from improved ethical behaviour, sportsmanship and good citizenship. The benefits that flow from the Company’s purpose relating to community participation in healthy recreation, are access to sporting facilities significantly improving the general health of the community. Whilst the Company’s facility has only recently opened, it is hoped that it will provide significant community benefits through improved civic pride and increased community participation. In seeking to demonstrate these benefits, it is anticipated that evaluations from participants and users of the facility will be undertaken in order to provide tailored activities suitable to the needs of the beneficiaries. It is anticipated that feedback and evaluation will enable the development of responsive services. The health and mental benefits arising from the participation in competitive football are readily identifiable. In relation to possible harm that may arise from the Company’s purposes, it is acknowledged that access to the facility is not provided on a free of charge basis. The directors consider that the introduction of charges for the use of the facility is necessary in order to ensure the maintenance, upkeep and survival of the facility. However, consideration has been given to the level of charges payable by the beneficiaries, many of whom are children, from lower income families and/or community groups. In considering the harm that may arise from potential injury, the directors have sought to minimise potential harm through appropriate risk assessments, and, where necessary, the use of safety equipment and instruction. Rules are in place for users of the playing surface as well as viewers to ensure that the environment remains a safe place to participate, and, to spectate. In considering the private benefits arising from the Company’s work, it is acknowledged that incidental private benefits are received by coaches/facilitators as a result of payments made to facilitators/coaches where required. This is considered necessary for the running of the facility and its classes. The private benefits received by directors as a consequence of any necessary and transferrable governance or management training is considered incidental and necessary in order to ensure that benefit is provided to the beneficiaries.
