Public benefits
The benefits which flow from this purpose is the management of facilities being maintained so that they can be used by a local community. The group does this by managing the local Activity Centre in Rathfern by generating income through the letting of rooms and reinvesting this income into the centre to improve the facilities on offer. The centre
fees are maintained at a low level with groups which have a community focus such as Mothers and Toddlers, homework club being given rooms at no cost or being run directly by the group. The benefits can be demonstrated by the actual numbers attending a range of events and activities that is on offer. On average we have over 850 users in a six day week period. These users come from a cross community cross cultural background. Direct benefits are the groups that use the centre for example the Homework Club benefits the young people attending through support doing their homework, indirectly parents and family benefit from their young people having free access to computers and support to do their work and in a wider context the community benefits from having a generation of educated young people who can avail of local jobs in the area. The intended beneficiaries are all the inhabitants of the Rathfern area and neighbouring areas. We are particularly interested in working with people from low income families, those living alone and those with health related issues who would benefit from wider community support and a range of services. There is no potential for harm as all our volunteers are Access NI checked and complete vulnerable adults and child protection training. We work in partnership with other organisations in the area not in competition with them. No one benefits from the activities that the group or the centre provides as we are totally a not for profit project and any surplus required at the end of the financial year would be used to maintain the building, maintain decoration within the building purchase of new equipment and to run activities which are provided free to the community as a whole.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
Our organisation works closely with the community to develop the area and programs that they wish to see. The organisation has no paid workers but operates solely on the kindness of volunteers. Open seven days a week the centre is the focal point for our activities but we as a group are concerned with the area as a whole. Enviromental isses,
addressing lack of education, increasing employment opportunities, and addressing other needs within the area are the focus for the group.
