Public benefits
Purpose 1:This will directly benefit the local community by promoting education in our local area by keeping alive old skills and educating our children in old farming methods and interactively encourage participation and promote learning though active involvement. Purpose 2: The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include having the
ability to actually show and demonstrate the history of agricultural industry and the importance the early developments in agriculture have played in right through to modern day. Purpose 3: The direct benefits are educating members of the community in the rich history and cultural developments that have taken place within our own local areas in both the distant and not so distant past. Purpose 4 future proofs the work of the organisation allowing it to only work for charitable aims for the benefit of the public. The benefits are demonstrated by ongoing evaluation, comments/satisfaction survey for participants and overall evaluations of projects. There is no harm flowing from any of our purposes. The benefit is to people within the Mid Ulster Community including local residents, historical groups, community groups, schools, Churches and old peoples homes through promotion of intergenerational education without religious, sexual, age, or any other form of discrimination. We intend to become a hub within the local community by bringing the old together with the young in a mutually beneficial experience. A private benefit to volunteers may arise through a programme of ongoing training in good goverance, finance etc. Through this training volunteers will gain skills and experiences which will be transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

We are set up to keep alive the old skills and crafts and to appreciate the old farming methods, tractors and machinery. We have approx eight acres of land leased from LAFARGE/TARMC and we are using this to demonstrate in practical ways the old farming methods, using vintage tractors and machinery. We are now preparing for our second year and will
soon be ploughing, sowing seed, and preparing for haymaking later in the year. We plan to use these facilities to bring together young and old, educate local school children, and speak to and record the experiences of the older generations, thus benefitting the whole community. In future we have aim to delve into the rich folklore and history of this area. We are planning craft demonstrations for such things as baking, blacksmithing, buttermaking patchwork, stitchwork and showing examples of old linens etc and researching the history of the local schools and country shops, linen, churches and graveyards etc. In future we would hope to be able to restore some old farm equipment etc and speak to and record wherever possible the reminiscences of the older generations of local people. Our group is run by a small number of enthusiastic men and women formed into a committee and members who share a love of local history and bygone farming practices. All of this work is carried out voluntarily and with no financial gain to the members. We intend to use our profits in the future to promote more of these projects over the next few years. We are currently linked to two Primary Schools who want to get involved with our group to carry out local history projects and we are taking part in a Christmas tree festival at a local church. We will measure the effectiveness of our work by the numbers attending our exhibitions, by the numbers of primary school children becoming involved in our activities, by ongoing evaluations and surveys and the response to our outreach programmes. There is no harm flowing from our activities.
