Public benefits
Purpose: Our purpose is to promote religion and in particular to bring glory to God by producing mature disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. Public Benefit: The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include - an improved wellbeing for individual beneficiaries with regards to self esteem and spiritual wellbeing through regular fellowship
provided by the church. Access to public worship and prayer meetings, the encouragement of members to adopt a moral framework which encourages them to be good citizens, improving quality of life through food parcels and heating fuels, improved resources and safety for local children and young people through having access to safe supervised clubs where they can play and interact with peers. The indirect benefits which flow from this purpose include - moral improvements in society which religion is thought to encourage. Improved social cohesion and integration which comes from having a diverse cross section of society brought together with a common goal and purpose. These benefits are recognisable and can be demonstrated from the experiences of beneficiaries through feedback from themselves, from Statutory Services with whom we work in partnership when distributing food parcels and home heating fuels, and through case law in identifying that religion is believed to promote and encourage a moral improvement in society. Harm: The question of harm (as categorised in the Advancement of Religion supporting document section 3.4) being derived from these activities is mitigated against by way of the voluntary basis upon which the organisation pursues its purpose. Any member is free to end their membership at any time in a formal or informal manner. None of the above Public Benefits are pursued through persuasion, debate or otherwise intellectual endeavours. Rather our purpose is achieved through an entirely voluntary and willing reciprocation on the part of any beneficiary to the love of God shown to them through the fellowship of public worship and/or other ministries. Beneficiaries: The residents of the Derry/Londonderry area are the intended beneficiaries of this Purpose, however this is not exclusive to the local population and is freely extended to any other persons from any other nation or province who may wish to benefit from the activities of the organisation. All ministries are provided free of charge and are available to all beneficiaries (according to certain criteria being met - i.e. recipients of food parcels are assessed as being ‘in need’ by local statutory family support services). Public worship, access to downloads via the website and prayer meetings are open to all beneficiaries and access is not dependent on criteria or assessment. Private benefits: A private benefit arises from paid positions in the church. The Pastor role is a paid position as it is vital to the running of the church. Their responsibilities include organising and presiding over public worship and prayer meetings, visiting members who are in need of spiritual or practical help and visiting the sick to provide company and encouragement. They have overall responsibility for the running of all ministries in accordance with the purpose of the organisation. This is a full time position which is currently recognised through a salary. At certain times it may be deemed appropriate by church oversight to award small weekly supplementary sums to volunteers or members who provide vital services to the ongoing ministries, or create new roles if these are accepted as necessary in terms of maintaining or furthering ministries and the purpose of the church. These private benefits are necessary to achieve our purposes and are therefore incidental.

Mission statement for Derry/Donegal Christian Fellowship We the oversight of Derry/ Donegal Christian Fellowship seek to carry out our role as a church body by reaching out to the people of the Derry and Donegal regions, with the message of the gospel (John 3:16). We believe that in this role as ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20); we will
reach and affect people from all walks of life, from various backgrounds, and we will endeavour to bring hope to our young people through the youth ministries called ‘The Ark’ (for 7-11 year olds); and ‘Impact’ teenagers, and ‘Impact’ Young Adults. This is a place of safety and trust where young people from all backgrounds can come under supervision and seek God in a safe and secure environment. We have seen numerous testimonies of lives who have been set free from addictions and many more of broken lives being rebuilt and restored in many cases to their families but also the wider community. We also seek to alleviate the symptoms and effects of poverty in our community with the ‘Widows Jar’ project. It provides short term relief from poverty through food parcels and bags of coal or drums of oil. This ministry is not driven by a desire for financial gain or recognition, but rather simply falls under the principle that ‘We love because He (God) first loved us. 1 John 4:19.
