Public benefits

Purpose 1 – The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved social and economic development outcomes for individuals and communities, direct relief of poverty in drought, earthquake, flood or other disaster and improved competencies and capacity of local people engaged full time and part time in the projects. These benefits are

demonstrated through feedback from local people, community leaders, and independent evaluation of our projects by community development professionals with emphasis on measurable long term sustainability. In initiating projects in other cultures and countries there is some risk of unintended side effects through misunderstanding of the cultures and the effects of the changes brought to communities. The beneficiaries of this purpose are mainly but not exclusively people living in poorer communities in less developed countries of the two thirds world. Purpose 2 - The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved health outcomes, reduced levels of stress and anxiety and improved competence and capacity of local health workers. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from patients and independent evaluation of our projects and services by healthcare professionals. In providing medical treatment for patients or a community healthcare project there is a risk of unintended side effects from the drugs however this is rare and the benefit outweighs the harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are mainly but not exclusively people living in poorer communities in less developed countries of the two thirds world. Purpose 3 - The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved educational outcomes for individuals and communities and improved competence and capacity of local people engaged full time and part time as educators and trainers. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from local people, community leaders, achievements in exams, tests, the gaining of qualifications and independent evaluation of our projects and services by education professionals. In providing educational projects in other cultures and countries there is some risk of unintended side effects through misunderstanding of the culture and the effects of the changes education brings to communities. The beneficiaries of this purpose are mainly but not exclusively people living in poorer communities in less developed countries of the two thirds world. Purpose 4 - The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved social, economic psychological and spiritual well being and development for individuals and communities as well as improved competencies and capacity of local people engaged full time and part time in the projects. There is special emphasis on the use of outdoor pursuit activities as a means of helping people move from disadvantage into being mature contributing members of their communities particularly focussing on the needs of young people. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from local people, community leaders, and independent evaluation of our projects by youth work and community development professionals with emphasis on measurable long term change. In initiating projects in other cultures and countries there is some risk of unintended side effects through misunderstanding of the cultures and the effects of the changes brought to communities. The beneficiaries of this purpose are mainly but not exclusively people living in poorer communities in less developed countries of the two thirds world. In relation to all of the above, a private benefit to trustees may arise from our programme of ongoing training in good governance, finance etc. Through this training trustees gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
