Public benefits

The Trustees believe that our purpose satisfies the public benefit requirement. To provide relief of persons (including relevant family and friends) in Northern Ireland who are in conditions of emotional distress, hardship, ill-health, facing relationship difficulties, family problems through the provision of a professional, Christian, caring and

confidential reflective listening and counselling service with the purpose of relieving such persons. The direct benefits include helping these persons move towards positive change and growth. These benefits are evidenced through - feedback from vulnerable people, statistical reporting, case studies and the Active Listening/PSNI working group reports. The provision of these services can never be entirely without risk however, our professional policies, systems and procedures minimise the risk and the benefits considerably outweigh any remote possibility of harm. The charities beneficiaries are any person referred to us as vulnerable by the PSNI. The charities beneficiaries also include those directly associated with the vulnerable person. A private benefit to trustees, management team and volunteers may arise from our training and development programme which includes managing our charity, active listening and other related training which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

Active Listening is an entirely voluntary organisation that believes that all people really matter. We try to show this by offering a listening and signposting service, providing support to people referred to us by the PSNI, during times of great difficulty and helping them move towards change and growth.
