Public benefits

All of our purposes have the same mutual direct benefits flowing from them; these include improvements in various capabilities, competencies, skills and understanding of cancer amongst the beneficiaries. This leads to the expansion of a community-based network in which individuals can self-manage, develop and pass on their own personal experiences

as well as the encouragement of individuals to live life as person not always as a patient. Further benefits include the dispelling of myths and fears around cancer, the highlighting of key messages in early detection, prevention and cancer awareness as well as improving overall healthier lifestyles and knowledge of holistic approaches in health and healing. The benefits can be evidenced or demonstrated through accurate record keeping in which the service user will record having received the service and any follow up/feedback, for example, our signed beneficiary registration sheets at internal/external events. We maintain overall evidence based statistics which include gender, area location, definition of service users etc. Evidenced based annual statistics tell us that 2679 people affected by cancer benefited from the organisation during the period 1st April-2013 -31st March 2014. We are also recognised as an accredited training centre with the Federation of Holistic Therapists. The beneficiaries, in a direct sense, are people with cancer in Co. Tyrone and wider across Northern Ireland but also their families, friends and carers who benefit from any improvements gained. This may be considered a private benefit but is clearly justified and merely incidental to carrying out the purposes. There are no harms arising out of our purposes which would not be outweighed by the benefits.
