Public benefits

The purpose of Carrickfergus and District Historical Society is to promote a knowledge and understanding of the past by means of education, recording and dissemination of information, especially of the history of the Carrickfergus area. These benefits can be demonstrated by feedback and words of thanks from the beneficiaries for the information

received. The purpose of our Charity will not lead to any harm. The Charity’s beneficiaries are the general public in the Carrickfergus area and those who originated from the area but have since moved away and are keen to learn about the lives of their ancestry. There are no private benefits flowing from the purpose.

What your organisation does

The Carrickfergus and District Historical Society promotes the following activities. 1. Organises a winter programme of lectures on a range of topics with an historical content. 2. During the months of May to August, inclusive, visits are arranged to locations associated with historical events and associations. 3. The Society produces a

newsletter known as the Big Lamp at regular intervals that summarises our recent activities and mentions our recent topics. 4. The Society publishes from time to time editions of various historical literature. 5. The Society also co-operates and are active members of the Federation for Ulster Local Studies and takes an active interest in the Borough Council's historical activities most notably the Museum and other projects related to the past.
