Public benefits

Purpose 1 To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Kinawley District by associating together with various local bodies in a common effort to advance education, health and social welfare in the area with the objective of improving their conditions of life. This is done through the provision and maintenance of a local shared space that

encourages social interaction and the accessing of services in the Kinawley District that would otherwise be unavailable locally or difficult to access for local people. Examples of services provided include Senior Citizens Computer classes, Keep-Fit and dance classes, Children’s music classes, a range of community social activity. The benefit that flows from this purpose is in the drawing together of local statutory groups, voluntary groups and the inhabitants of the Kinawley District in a common objective to achieve the following: 1. Provision locally of a venue for conferences and meetings which allows the associating together of statutory groups, voluntary groups and the inhabitants which improves community life 2. Improved community and cross-community relationships and a higher level of social interaction between members of different communities 3. Higher levels of social interaction and the accessing of services by the rural population in the district of Kinawley 4. Reduction in the levels of rural isolation encountered by older people locally These benefits are evidenced by measurement of the increase in the number of cross-community events attended by members of different communities within Kinawley, feedback from the users of the facility including Church leaders, local statutory groups, voluntary groups and the inhabitants of the Kinawley District. They are also evidenced by the number of people attending community events including dances, bingo and related activity as well as the number of people attending seminars and social service briefings given by the local council and related service delivery bodies. There are no identified harmful effects of this purpose.
