psychological stress; • If physical quality of life is poor, older men can still experience good emotional wellbeing as social interaction is associated with good mental quality of life; • The provision of something to look forward to which gives some structure to the week/day; • Productive activities are as important as physical activity in reducing the likelihood of premature mortality and institutionalisation and • Stimulation for older people prevents deterioration in physical and mental health. The direct benefit that flows from purpose B is: • Encouraging better use of resources by reducing duplication and identifying opportunities for collaboration; • Providing a focus to work done with older people In the local area of benefit; • Raising the profile of older people; • Challenging the negative stereotypes of older people and • Increasing awareness of what is available to older people; There is no harm or private benefit flowing from The Tuesday Club purposes. The public beneficiaries are those who are older men aged 60 or over and older people in Cookstown District. The benefits listed above are demonstrated through the beneficiaries’ direct participation in weekly activities and evidenced through feedback from participants. Consistently feedback reveals that the club is a ‘lifeline’ for many older people, the company, interaction, mental stimulation and afternoon tea are all vital components to all beneficiaries. The continued demand and attendance at The Tuesday Club clearly highlights the benefit element.
