We believe our purpose meets the public benefit requirement as follows: (1) Community Development and social welfare • providing practical support to community/voluntary organisations; • promoting the protection & improvement of the built environment; • advancing education & training to increase the physical & intellectual wellbeing of
inhabitants; • developing the capacity & skills of residents of communities in the area to enable them to participate more fully in society; • promote social enterprise to improve the lives of those in the community (2) Advancement of Health • the provision of facilities for recreation & social intervention to improve life for the inhabitants; • increasing the ability of people to remain independent within the community and improve their overall condition of life by providing Domiciliary Care for Older People & Day Care for those with Learning Disability, Physical Disability, Mental Health & Dementia, providing Sitting Service / Carers Support for informal carers, providing a Day Care service for young physically disabled adults aged 18-64 years & providing Flexi Care services to older people in need of support particularly those with no significant family network; • Active Living Programme - encourages older people, 55 years plus, to engage in activities that are socially, physically, & mentally rewarding. (3) Relief of Poverty and those in need • provision of sustenance through subsidised Luncheon Club/Meals on Wheels service to those aged over 55 years; • work with specialist agencies to provide money management/debt counselling advice to those in poverty or at risk of suffering poverty to help them avoid poverty and manage their finances more appropriately ; • offer training & employment opportunities for long-term unemployed to help improve their employment prospects; • provide Winter Health packs of warm clothing to those most vulnerable which would not otherwise have been available. All our benefits to the public are demonstrated in our Annual Report & evaluations. Some more practical examples of how our benefits can be demonstrated are as follows: - - As a Social Enterprise we are a significant contributor to the economy of Strabane. - The high numbers of uptake on the following services - Individual support and care hours provided by our Domiciliary Care & Flexi Care services - Luncheon club/Meals on wheels - Use of minibuses for transport - Training & Job Creation - We work with other organisations in the area offering training & employment opportunities to participants. -The Neighbourhood Health Improvement Project is focused on health improvement, addressing issues such as smoking & obesity, drugs & alcohol misuse & capacity building to tackle the wider determinants of health. Programmes delivered have increased the health awareness of participants & improved access to health services & benefits impacting positively on the health of people. -We help deliver a Help at Hand (H.A.H.) Project in Strabane - Volunteers made visits to people in the area ensuring they were safe, secure & comfortable in their home & had hot food each day & delivered winter health packs to those most vulnerable. Money was distributed to those deemed most vulnerable in our community, in Electricity vouchers via the local Post Office. We have also donated £10,000 to assist in combating Fuel Poverty. For all of the above benefits our private benefits are incidental. Staff receive a private benefit in the form of payment in wages which is necessary & incidental in advancing the charity’s purpose. Directors & staff undertake training which develops transferable skills which may enhance their personal opportunities in the labour market. Our beneficiaries are any men, women, lone parents, people living with disabilities, young adults, those approaching later life as well as unemployed & long term unemployed. There is no harm flowing from our purposes.

This is what our organisation does: Strabane & District Caring Services is a not for profit community voluntary organisation who also provides social care services in the Western Trust area. We are a significant employer in the local area and at present we employ 230 people. Our Mission The stated mission of Strabane & District Caring Services
is given as: To enhance the quality of life, further health care, encourage a greater sense of community spirit & to combat unemployment through job creation in the Western area. To empower individuals & families engage in activities which enhances the health & well being & encourage each to develop resilience to those issues which detract from them being an active citizen.
