Public benefits

The public benefit flowing from the first purpose will entail improvement to the quality of life of the pupils from the a. Daily use of appropriate play, education and care facilities. b. Facilities for general recreation within the physical confines of Harberton School. Both of which would not have been available through school funding. The

public benefit flowing from the second purpose will entail improvement of the quality of life of the pupils and increase of their awareness and abilities through a. Participation in educational visits and special visits e.g. performances by drama groups and sport groups b. Being able to avail of free or subsidised transport to educational visits and special events which may not otherwise have been available The public benefit flowing from the third purpose will entail improvement of the quality of life through a. Funding for additional resources for the school outside of the direct school budget such as playground equipment b. Being able to enrol their child and their child to take part in all activities organised by the Harberton Summer Scheme providing consistency for the pupils and an indirect benefit to the parents by providing assistance for the care of the child during school holidays. c. Being able to organise or assist in organising classes, workshops, training courses, meetings, exhibitions, events and activities consistent with the objects of the Association and thus increasing educational progress of the pupils. d. By making available the useful results of research, surveys and investigations so that all members of the association can access this and learn from the content of same. The public benefit flowing from the fourth purpose will entail improvement of the quality of life by being able to access grants that will a. Address needs identified by or reflecting the concerns of those who attend Harberton School and Outreach Services. b. Meet needs that are not already being met. c. Tackle disadvantage or exclusion and promote inclusion and engagement. d. Demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity. e. Show good value for money. There will be no harm flowing from any of the purposes. There may be incidental private benefit in the need to pay teachers and other staff necessary for the fulfilment of the purposes. The beneficiaries of the purposes are the children of Harberton School and Outreach Services and indirectly their carers and parents from the improvements to their child’s life. The benefits are demonstrated by having an active organisation that engage with all parties involved with the school and through the increase in availability of and access to additional resources such as the equipment, school visits and transport.

What your organisation does

We apply for grants and raise money to enable us to fund The Harberton Summer Scheme We also raise funds to support special visits to the school e.g. by drama groups and sport groups. We raise funds for educational visits by the pupils to a range of education centres. We raise funds for transport for pupils to special events and education

visits. We raise funds for appropriate play, education and care facilities for children of primary school age with special educational needs who attend Harberton School and Outreach Services. We raise funds for provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the quality of life for the parents and children of primary school age with special educational needs. This will include funding for playground equipment or additional school resources. In furtherance to the above - the Friends of Harberton may: (i) Collect and disseminate information on all matters relating to its objects, and to exchange such information with other bodies having similar objects whether in Northern Ireland or elsewhere; (ii) Organise or assist in organising workshops, training courses, meetings, exhibitions and activities consistent with the objects of the Friends of Harberton; (iii) Recruit and train volunteers with relevant skills to carry out the work of the Friends of Harberton; (iv) Raise funds and invite or receive contributions from any person or persons whatsoever by way of subscription, donation or otherwise provided that the Friends of Harberton shall not undertake any form of permanent trading; (v) Affiliate to other organisations with similar objects;

Charitable purposes

To advance the education of the pupils in Harberton School and Outreach Services and in particular to: i) Provide appropriate play, education and care facilities for children of primary school age with special educational needs who attend Harberton School and Outreach Services. ii) Provide and assist in the provision of services for children of primary school age with special educational needs who attend Harberton School and Outreach Services, that enables the development of skills in communication, reasoning, aesthetic appreciation and environmental awareness. iii) Provide and assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of education, social welfare for recreation and other leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the quality of life for the parents and children of primary school age with special educational needs who attend Harberton School and Outreach Services. iv) Promote all or any purposes for the benefit of children of primary school age with special educational needs in the area of benefit, which now or hereafter may be deemed by law to be charitable under the law of Northern Ireland.
