Public benefits
Milltown Super Adults Club meets the public benefit requirement by providing a wide range of activities which in turn provides a benefit to the local Milltown community. Members who avail of services and activities through the club benefit socially and mentally through engagement, reducing social isolation and increasing confidence in the Milltown
area. • Members experience a direct benefit through this engagement at activities, social outings etc.. which results in the creation of new relationships and friendships, positive thinking and sharing of experiences. • The local Milltown Area community indirectly benefit as a result of the Super Adult’s production of a newsletter distributed throughout the local area. Milltown Super Adults also attend Housing Community Network and Inter Agency meetings where they bring forward issues happening within the local area eg environmental issues such as paving, water ponding, anti social behaviour etc. The relevant agencies then take action and resolve the problems. • The Super Adults Club work for the wider benefit of the community and surrounding area – the Club increases good mental health through the engagement of older people, restoring confidence and reducing social isolation. The Club also increases the understanding of older people and increases awareness of the need of engagement of older people. Ideally, as per the Club’s governing document, the Club’s direct beneficiaries are the older people of the Milltown community area, whilst indirectly benefiting the wider community and society. The Super Adults Club promotes equality of opportunity between people as per the Northern Ireland Act 1998 section 75 based on the following nine characteristics; 1. Age 2. Having or not having a disability 3. Gender 4. Marital status 5. Religion 6. Political opinion 7. Ethnicity 8. Sexual orientation 9. The Club's management board meet monthly for committee meetings in which issues are discussed such as funding updates, project
management, financial reports from the Treasurer, feedback on recent activities and so on. All activities take place in Gardiners Hall situated in the Milltown Area in Dungannon. Activities which the group have been involved in are craft classes, jewellery making, Thai Chi, Senior Citizen Dances and Dinners, card making classes, soft bowls and various day trips throughout Northern Ireland such as Crumlin Road Jail, Titanic Quarter, An Creggan Centre, shopping trips to Ballymena and Belfast and so on. As well as working directly with and for older members of our community, the Club also has a keen interest in improving the general Milltown area and members of the Club attend Dungannon Housing Community Network, Inter-Agency and Neighbourhood Renewal meetings. Liaising with these relevant bodies ensures that the views of the community are taken into account regarding roads, social housing, youth activities, economic growth etc.
