Purpose 1 To relieve poverty by providing a range of services to the local Ballee community What Benefit flows from the purpose? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose is the provision of hot meals and support for the elderly within the Ballee area. Additionally providing educational opportunities and skills development to the residents

in the Ballee area tackling root causes of poverty. Furthermore recruiting and training local volunteers in order to provide opportunities which may lead to employment. Additionally to complete consultations throughout the local area to identify local need. The wider benefit to the community is improve living standards, improve community spirit, identified local need, improve health and well being of the residents of the Ballee area and building capacity within the local Ballee area. Can you demonstrate this These benefits are evidenced through feedback from regular evaluations from the most vulnerable older members of our community and from those attending the many training events offered within the Ballee area. Furthermore a recent consultation completed in May 2013 helped to identify local need. Is any harm or possibility of harm outweighed by the benefit? This purpose does not lead to harm Who is the benefit for? The charity’s beneficiaries are the residents within the Ballee area. This includes vulnerable older people, the unemployed and families. What your organisation does

Ballee Community Association was formed in 1977, by a group of like minded volunteers who came together to proactively tackle social, environmental and economic concerns within the Ballee area and work in partnership with voluntary, statutory and community organizations to improve the local area and create a safe and better place to live. Ballee

is considered to be an area of high multiple deprivations and the Association work in partnership with the Department for Social Development to deliver a Neighbourhood Renewal Action Plan for the area. Ballee was also a Northern Neighbourhood's Health Action Zone with the Association committed to bridging the gap in the health inequalities. The group currently deliver community led projects such as mothers and toddlers, summer scheme, weekly Senior Citizen Luncheon Club, weekly craft group, weekly youth projects, accredited educational projects and numerous community events to promote social inclusion and a sense of community pride. The group also deliver a number of health based projects to promote physical activity and encourage healthier lifestyles. The community centre is at the heart of the community and is the hub that engages the local residents of Ballee.

Charitable purposes

The Association is established to relieve poverty, sickness and the aged and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Ballee Ward and district area of Co. Antrim and its environs (hereinafter described as “the area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
