Public benefits

The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include reduced visual impairment and increased quality of life in the areas in which we operate. These benefits can be demonstrated through numbers attending our clinics, numbers of glasses provided, numbers of eye diseases diagnosed and treated. There is potential for harm in sending volunteers to

challenging parts of the world but this is mitigated by carrying out risk assessments and having policies in place to protect them and is necessary to achieving our purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are anybody living in Sierra Leone. There may be a private benefit to the travel companies who facilitate the movement of volunteers abroad. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

The purpose of the charity is to promote and protect the sight and eye health of people in need in Africa by: 1. Providing free or affordable eye care, including eye examinations, prescription glasses, and medical treatment, through the work of local and visiting eye care professionals. 2. Supporting the education and training of local eye care

workers to enhance sustainable, high-quality eye health services in their communities. 3. Supplying essential optical and medical equipment to improve access to eye care in underserved areas. 4. Raising awareness of eye health issues and advocating for improved eye care services in partnership with local organisations and healthcare providers. The charity will achieve these aims by working with local communities, healthcare professionals, and international volunteers to improve eye health, reduce preventable blindness, and enhance the quality of life of those affected by vision impairment.
