Charity no. 110416 Date registered. 10/04/2025

Public benefits

The direct benefits include improved health outcomes and quality of life for those being treated in our hospitals and in the wider community who suffer from all types of illnesses and disabilities and treated across our many specialities. Our beneficiaries directly benefit from the provision of education of the Belfast HSC Trust staff and

independent research as this increases education and awareness and the ability to provide more effective diagnoses and treatments, resulting in improved outcomes and quality of life. As the Belfast Trust is the regional speciality centre for many areas of care, the wider public throughout Northern Ireland also benefit from improved health outcomes and treatment. Benefits to services, equipment, R&D and education in 23/24; • Purchase access to the Propeller Respiratory app for children to allow remote monitoring by a consultant of children in their homes who suffer from Asthma. • Contributed to the purchase of a Gamma camera providing better quality imaging for more efficient diagnosis. • Purchase a multi head microscope allowing molecular diagnostic service to be provided in-house giving quicker diagnosis and faster direct treatment for the patient. • MSC in Palliative Medicine for Healthcare Professionals – a programme designed to improve the management of patients with non-curable and terminal illnesses. • Funding for a 2nd year of a Clinical fellow in Paediatric Research – to assist in paediatric training throughout NI. • Funded 7 staff members to attend the international forum for quality and safety IHI Conference in London 2024, teaching new techniques to improve quality and safety and then sharing these ideas throughout the Trust. There is no harm arising from the charity’s purposes. The charity is not involved in the direct provision of care or education and research but exists to provide additional funding to enhance already existing services or to commence new projects so it does not cause any harm to any members of the public nor put anyone at risk. There may be some side effects in research treatments and drug trials which the patients would be made aware of but the benefits of a successful outcome would outweigh the risk taken. The charity’s beneficiaries are predominantly people living in the Belfast catchment area receiving diagnosis and treatment under the Belfast HSC Trust. However, as the Belfast HSC Trust is the regional centre for a number of specialities, the beneficiary class may include all habitants of Northern Ireland who require specialist treatments available only at the Belfast HSC Trust. There is some private benefit to the staff of the Belfast HSC Trust who receive additional education for development of their skills and specific and targeted training on the use of new equipment and delivering treatment and care. However, this is incidental and necessary for the furtherance of the charity’s purposes and this education and training is subsequently shared for the benefit of other colleagues.
