Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from purpose 1 include addressing loneliness and isolation. Improved empathy and understanding of the situtations and experiences of marginalised groups. Improvement of mental health and wellbeing. "The direct benefits which flow from purpose 2 include the sharing of creative skills in textile arts, such as knitting,
crochet, fashion design, and garmet contsruction which is known to improve mental wellbeing and in some scases physical dexterity. We will share skills in heritage crafts which will keep them alive and in the minds of future generations. We will share empowering knowledge and skills to allow greater participation in community based activities." The direct benefits which flow from purpose 3 include addressing the mental health crisis and suicide/loneliness epidemics by promoting and providing access to 4 of the NHS 5 Steps to wellbeing. 'Learn new skills', 'Connect with other people', 'Be physically active', and 'Give to others'. Our work creates opportunites to practice these by attendance and participation. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 4 include the provision of clothing, toiletries and other personal care items free of charge to those in need who we have engaged with via our partner charities. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 5 include the use and reuse of fabrics and materials and saving them from landfill or export to developing countries. We will also create education and skill sharing opportunities to encourage people to mend rather than bin their clothing. Purpose 1, 2 & 3 Benefits will be demonstrated through our workshop attendances, memberships schemes and any waiting lists that may be formed. We will be working with QUB to create opportunites to measure data through surveys, polls and member declarations. We will regularly seek feedback from members and community groups after activities. Purpose 4 benefits will be demonstrated through our impact numbers, where we will continue to measure and count the number of items given through our projects, and via which charitable partner. Purpose 5 benefits will be demonstrated through our impact numbers, where we will measure and count the weight of clothing which has been saved from landfill via reuse, recycling and upcycling. Our purposes will lead to no harm. "The charity’s beneficiaries are: The public, but many services such as direct aid will be specifically only offered to sections of the public such as: • Women • Refugees and Asylum seekers • The LGBTQ+ community • Those experiencing financial hardship • Older people We will operate predominantly in Belfast but with some outreach and creative/direct aid services operating across other towns and cities in NI." The only private benefit flowing from our purposes is in the form of wages for staff, those who may receive our rent for our space to work within, and this is incidental and necessary because without them we could not operate.
