Public benefits

The public benefit is that older people in the Ards Peninsula region are offered the opportunity to continue to learn, share their knowledge and skills and make new friends in a convivial and stimulating environment thus reducing social isolation and contributing to members staying physically and mentally healthy. The benefit is demonstrated by

sustaining and growing our membership and participation levels in our group activities. There is no harm arising from our purpose. Our membership is open to anyone who is retired or no longer in full time employment. There is no private benefit arising from our purpose.

What your organisation does

Ards Peninsula u3a is a self-help organisation which encourages its members to share their learning, skills and experience, through various interest groups, to help enhance the learning experience of their peers. Members run the organisation and lead and contribute to the various groups. The activities which we offer range from bridge, walking,

gardening, literature and book group, languages, craft, creative writing, genealogy, art and painting for pleasure. We arrange visits for members to cultural centres and other places of interest in Northern Ireland and hold monthly meetings which include guest speakers who present on a wide range of interesting topics.

Charitable purposes

The charity’s object (‘the object’) is the advancement of education and in particular the education of older people and those retired from full time work, by all means including associated activities conducive to learning and personal development in Ards Peninsula.
