What are the direct benefits flowing from your organisation's purposes? Our charity trustees are satisfied that all elements of the public benefit requirement are met. The direct benefits flowing from the purposes ensure people with Dementia in Northern Ireland are able to live their lives to their full potential in a stimulating fun way in

conjunction with their carers and family. We offer a non-judgemental safe space. Social isolation, stigma, discrimination, anxiety, loneliness are reduced. Mental, physical health, well-being are improved. We provide a safe, supportive environment, encourage participation, discussion, problem resolution. We signpost to external help and advice. Our stimulating, enjoyable fun sessions last 2 hours fortnightly. The first hour is spent enjoying refreshments, socialising, sign posting and making sure everyone is OK. The second hour typically revolves around the following - Music– comforts, soothes and stimulates. Elicits powerful emotional responses and reconnects them with memories. (singalongs, playing instruments, live singers) Reminiscence, photos, memory boxes & story boards - creates high spirits, freedom from concern, lessens the effects of depression, anxiety and irritability. Recalling childhood memories & happier times is beneficial Painting, Crafting, Clay Model Making - creates significance and gives insight to thoughts in a non-verbal way Mindfulness - improves health & well-being – reflexology, massage, deep breathing Poetry – Stimulates creativity & happiness – nursery rhymes, limericks Chair/Gentle Exercises – Improves self-sufficiency, confidence, cognition, builds or maintains muscle, strength & balance, maintains independence for longer. Helps regulate sleep and prevent restlessness and sleeplessness in the evening Pets - relieve stress, depression, anxiety. Gives positive sensory experiences, helps lower blood pressure & heart rate, reduces the stress hormone cortisol, boosts serotonin. We raise Dementia Awareness in our community. How can the benefits identified above be demonstrated? All of the above benefits can be demonstrated through feedback from our people with Dementia and their carers and family members Is there any harm arising from any of the purposes? There are no identified harms flowing from any of the purposes. Who are the charity's beneficiaries? People with Dementia, their carers, family, ex Dementia carers whose loved ones have passed away that want to volunteer at our sessions. We provide Dementia Awareness to members of the general public to improve their understanding of what Dementia is and how it adversely affects lives of those with it and those caring for them. Is there any private benefit flowing from any of the purposes? Is it incidental and necessary? There is no private benefit flowing from any of the purposes - any benefit is incidental and necessary - there are no private benefits to any unintended beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

To enable us to carry out our purposes we provide a fortnightly Memories Cafe for those with Dementia and their carers. There is no charge/fee for attending our sessions and we provide refreshments and entertainment (internal eg games, singalongs and external - singers, bands, local artists, crafting tutors, mindfulness coaches. Our Cafe provides

a non-judgemental environment. We focus on - providing stimulating activities for everyone (we will be making various items which depict happiness for them). This interaction will help prevent boredom, aid relaxation and help to improve brain health - enjoyment, fun and laughter thus improving the quality of life while promoting a sense of pride and achievement - empowerment, person centered care and self-expression - fostering of emotional connections with others in a positive environment - rebuilding their sense of personal control by stirring memories - social inclusion, reinforcing well-being, engaging with life and their community - more thought on the process of an activity not just the results - what matters to us is that everyone enjoys the time spent on an activity and feels useful i.e. giving them an achievable purpose - lessening the anxiety and irritability that Dementia brings - creating a positive environment, conducive to their comforts and needs - experiencing more personal control which leads to a better/enjoyable, quality of life - ensuring the person’s dignity is intact and their brain is being exercised - opportunity for social engagement in a low cost/high benefit way giving a sense of inclusion and purpose - providing a break from normal routines, combatting stigma & isolation

Charitable purposes

The objects for which the Group is established are to offer programmes and services that improve the quality of life for persons living with dementia as well as their family care partners and friends and any purpose for the benefit of people living with dementia in Northern Ireland. The Group promotes social inclusion for people with dementia, their families and their carers by preventing them from becoming isolated. We provide facilities in which people with dementia, their families and carers have the opportunity to meet regularly with others in the same situation to speak openly about their problems, share their feelings and experiences and support each other. We encourage peer support, provide practical information and signpost access to advice from health and social care professionals and others and raise awareness of dementia.
