Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from Purpose (i) include: Rates of exploitation are decreasing. Vulnerable members of the community living on the streets who are often neglected, abused and exploited are empowered through knowledge of their rights and services/opportunities available to them. Children able to identify and report abuse more easily.

Parents and Communities rates of abuse decreasing in surrounding homesteads due to knowledge of their child’s rights and expectation surrounding it. Local and national governments are now adopting new policies because they are under the spotlight and pressured by the community at large to take responsibility as a result of our training and advocation work. This can be demonstrated through Kenyan government asking our organisation to help with the writing of the child protection legislation at County and National Levels and through them funding our work because they see the results in this area through the benefits described above. The direct benefits which flow from Purpose (ii) include: Lesser rates of family/marital separation. Reduced numbers of children being separated from parents and siblings due to placement in long term-care facilities. Reduced rates of domestic violence and child abuse. Reduced rates of crime amongst street-youth and children. Reduced numbers of children living on the streets or in vulnerable, dangerous situations. Increased confidence in parents’ ability to guide their children. Children able to communicate emotions, desires and challenges more healthily with adults. All of these factors also lessen their likely-hood of returning to live or work on the streets. These benefits are demonstrated through the 200+ children who are now living at home peacefully with their families as a direct result of engagement in our family reconciliation and conflict resolution, counselling programs and rehab services. Secondly, Through the National Government of Kenya assigning us under a Memorandum of Understanding as official partners in reconciliation work between streetchildren and their parents and conflict resolution between street-family and the wider local communities in Kenya. The direct benefit flowing from purpose (iii) is consequences of poverty such as poor physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health prevented in future generations. Less youth are suffering on the streets now and this prevents future families ending up on the streets due to lack of basic living essentials. This also aids future generations to grow financially and thus impacting positively to economic growth of the area we work within Kenya. This is evident through key stakeholders and governments asking for us to lead such training workshops and vocational skills provision and by the results seen as a result of our youth training workshops and vocational skills projects. The direct benefits which flow from Purpose (iv) include: Reduced rates of drug and alcohol abuse in our area of operation meaning less deaths and drug related crime. Less children and youth living on the streets. Less children living in households where their human rights are not met due to parents abusing alcohol and drugs. Lower rates of suicide and depression among the street-family community. Street-children, street youth and parents of street-children recovering from addictions. Lower rates of prostitution among street-family at large. Reduced sodomization and sexual abuse rates of young boys living on the streets. Demonstrated through parents of street children and youth admitting their child onto our rehabilitation programs where their child will undergo rehabilitation and receive access to trained counsellors and medical professionals because they have saw positive results of others who have undergone this. Through acceptance of referrals from the Kenyan Police Department of street-associated children and youth on probation who are suffering with mental health challenges or mental health diseases so we can put them through rehabilitation and counselling services. The benefit flowing from purpose (v) is the positive changes in the behaviour of the beneficiaries when they receive and hear the Gospel such as moral values that benefit the community at large, positive behavioural changes, biblical discipline, a love for God and his people, decreased crime, decreased addictions and increased conflict resolution and forgiveness between individuals and families and less children on streets. Benefits are demonstrated through children and youth from the streets coming to us and desiring to have rehab services and reconciliation between them and their families following our discipleship program engagement. Requests from families and schools for us to provide bible study materials and for us to send local church members and missionaries to their houses to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them. We have identified no harm coming from any of our purposes. We have identified no private benefit comig from these purposes.

What your organisation does

Our purposes are carried out within our rehabilitation and family reunification centre where we have teachers, social workers, counsellors and care givers managing our program. We carry out the purposes through a model system known as the 4 R's and P. This stands for Rescue, Rehabilitate, Reconcile, Restore and Prevent. Purpose (i) is carried

out through data capture on the streets. Social workers rescuing children and admitting them in our temporary care facility under a 3 to 12 month rehabilitation program consisting of counselling, empowerment, extra curricular activities and trade learning. Purpose (ii) is carried out through the tuition given to street-children on our rehabilitation programs specifically tailored to help children who have missed most of school life to gain confidence in the classroom and catch up quickly to a level appropriate for their age. We consult with and involve community, headteachers and local trades professionals in the process. Purpose (iii) is achieved through family tracing and empowerment. Offering family counselling and conflict resolution services to families and their children who are admitted on our rehabilitation and family reunification programs and parents classes on holistic care needs of children. Social workers help children to reintegrate back to living with their family in the family home instead of on the streets and ensure it is a safe environment through monitoring, emotional support and minimal welfare support if needed. (iv and vi) we offer community education days where by we train communities on the risks and warning signs of children being involved in crime, drugs, truancy and later running to the streets. We also offer parental support groups and services such as social service support and counselling. (v) we work closely with government offices and service providers as well as local chiefs providing data bases of those living on the streets without birth certificate/I.D
