Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include offering a safe secure nurturing environment where children are encouraged to attain his/her maximum physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. The public benefit derived from the activities which engage the wider community with our curriculum include increased social
networking between families within the local rural district and are evidenced through the uptake of the services, particularly given that we are one of the only facilities in the wider Omagh area to offer summer family sessions. The benefits are evidenced through staff observations of the children during their work and play, feedback from parents/carers throughout the year, Social Services Annual Inspection Report and an Inspection from the DoE. There is no harm flowing from the organisations purposes. The beneficiaries are the children who attend our setting (Pre-school children aged 2 year 10 months - 5 years) and their parents/guardians. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose for our Trustees would be the gaining of new skills as they take on roles on our Management Committee. These are necessary benefits but incidental and therefore necessary for the successful running of the organisation in carrying out our purposes.

Our playgroup is Steiner-Waldorf, Dept. of Education and Social Services registered providing calm, familiar and unhurried playgroup sessions from 08.30am to 12pm each weekday. We provide the opportunity for children to learn through play based on Steiner-Waldorf principles and the “Curricular Guidance“ document from the DoE. Our playgroup
fosters self-help and socialization skills, rules acceptance and collaborative play under the care and guidance of our highly qualified staff and volunteers. Its sessions are structured equally between indoor and outdoor activities which include seasonal arts and crafts, gardening, household skills, music and movement, woodwork, clay/dough, cookery and baking, songs, rhymes, stories and puppets. We provide props for role play to stimulate social and imaginary play, construction and a book corner where children are encouraged to relax, look at books or be told a story by staff. Outside play takes place in a safe enclosed garden area which encourages the use of seasonal natural materials in free imaginative play. Activities include playing in a mud kitchen, sand-pit, vegetable garden and wildlife area. Children are encouraged to develop physical skills by using balls, parachute, hoops, skipping ropes, stilts, bats and balls, trampoline, swing, and the slide. The care of the environment is fostered in our activities. We host regular parent evenings and operate a book and toy library to encourage parental/guardian involvement in their child’s Steiner education. We invite the wider community to engage with our curriculum through our weekly Parent & Toddler Group, which extends across the Summer, a yearly music festival, adult art and craft and parent evenings, gardening days, an Easter walk and lantern festival. We network with local initiatives such as the Clanabogan Development Initiative, Camphill Community Clanabogan, a cluster group of local pre-schools and nurseries and the Early Years Organisation for Young Children.
