Public benefits
Purpose 1:Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of the pupils in the school. The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and
attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. Purpose 1 is demonstrated through having an active Parent support group that works in partnership with the school and local community and engages parental support. Purpose 2 is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. No harm arises from either purpose The beneficiaries are the children at St Mary's Primary school Portaferry. Charity Trustees (PSG members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
We have an active Parent support group that works in partnership with the school and local community and engages parental support. Through fundraising activities and organising events, such as family fun days, non-uniform days etc we raise funds so that pupils of St Mary's P.S Portaferry have access to resources, events, activities and links with
the local community which are not available through direct school funding. All parents (and those who support the aims of the group) are welcome to attend and contribute to the development of the Parent Support Group and the fundraising activities we co-ordinate. We ensure regular communication between the school, parents and local community via the school newsletter, website and text messaging service. We regularly engage in joint funding bids/fundraising activities with other local community groups which has, in recent times, enabled us to successfully secure laptops/tablets, access to parenting support programmes, training for staff, pupil workshops and wellbeing resources.
