Public benefits

Greater educational understanding of the Battle of the Somme including subsequent conflicts, battles and wars. A greater knowledge of local sacrifice and the impact of war on local families and the cost as a Nation. The erection of fitting memorials to ensure that memories last and that the bravest who served and gave limb and life for our

freedoms are remembered by future generations. Supporting ex and serving personnel by giving to charities who aid them in their hour of need. Supporting ex and serving personnel with emerging needs if and when required. Education and school engagement can be identified by the teachers who are engaged in the activities and using the learning resources. The greater knowledge of local stories is evidenced very much in our social media and our #OnThisDay initiative when we highlight many people locally who paid the ultimate sacrifice. The benefits of erecting fitting memorials like that of William McFadzean VC, bronze bust is significant. It has very much become a feature within Lurgan with people travelling significant distances. These memorials we believe are very much the peoples and they do ensure that memories live on. Serving and ex-service personnel assistance via charities can be demonstrated via our accounts with a significant amount of money being donated to such charities. Supporting those who have served or are serving can be demonstrated in the transformation of lives and the support obtained from signposting and assisting in getting the help needed. NONE Given that many of our efforts are underpinned by education surrounding remembrance of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice during our history it is very much children and teachers are beneficiaries. Additionally we do assist anybody who contacts us who has served, is currently serving or are a dependent, spouse or partner of someone who is serving or has served in the armed forces. Additionally the beneficiaries of our public realm words include large sections of the community who travel past whether driving or walking. Take for instance the William McFadzean VC bust, which is now an iconic piece of art work which is visited by many in the town of Lurgan. We have also diversified into creating a sub committee who focus on “Ribbon of Poppies” which is aimed at creating a living memory to those who laid down their lives. This is enjoyed by many and is good for the environment. We ensure that everyone is welcome both within our membership and to our many events. What your organisation does

The charity has a dedicated and committed leadership and membership with the aim of not only remembering but educating young people about the our Armed Forces history. We have several strands all of which have a sub committee formed to advance the agenda with aim of feeding into and fulfilling the long term objectives of the group. Collectively

we meet monthly with the aim of discussing, organising and brain-storming on new and innovative ways of working. Our education committee is focused on ensuring our young people are educated in the Armed Forces history and particularly the importance of Remembrance. The Remembrance element involved a significant social media presence on a daily basis remembering those specific to Northern Ireland who lost their lives in the Great War or indeed subsequent battles and having regular remembrance events not just at Remembrance season but on significant dates throughout the year. It also has involved the erection of public realm works. Also we raise significant funds through memorabilia sales and hosting events so as to donate significant amounts of money to local charities who support of ex and serving personnel. We also host a significant number of events be it historical talks, we have ongoing research into local stories and have an historian, and primary school principal who are constantly working to improve on our resources and information.
