Public benefits

Q: What are the direct benefits flowing from your organisation's purposes? 1)The direct benefits which flow from purpose one (advancement of education benefit) include increased knowledge for our young people and the opportunity to gain qualifications and therefore progress to further education or employment. 2)The direct benefits which flow from

purpose two (relief of those in need benefit,by reason of mental health issues) include a decrease in social isolation, improved mental and emotional well-being, increased self-esteem and improved relationships with family members. 3)The direct benefits which flow from purpose three (advancement of health or the saving of lives benefit) include improvement in mental health and emotional well-being, reduction in self-harm, suicides and suicide ideation and increase in self-esteem and improved relations with family/friends. 4)The direct benefits which flow from purpose four (advancement of education benefit) include increased knowledge for teachers and other professionals in how to support/protect vulnerable young people and safer environments for our young people. Q: How can the benefits identified above be demonstrated? 1)These benefits will be evidenced through feedback and evaluations from beneficiaries, teachers and other relevant adults. 2)These benefits will be evidenced through feedback and evaluations from beneficiaries. 3)These benefits will be evidenced by end-of-counselling client evaluation. 4)These benefits will be evidenced through course attendance statistics/evaluations. Q: Is there any harm arising from any of the purposes? 1)There is no harm arising from this purpose. 2)There is no harm arising from this purpose. 3)There is a risk for some who will revisit the trauma. This is managed by risk assessment and focus on providing a safe therapeutic space. Therapists can also find this stressful and they receive clinical supervision to ensure risk is managed. 4)There is no harm arising from this purpose. Q: Who are the charity's beneficiaries?Who are the charity's beneficiaries? 1)The beneficiaries of this service are the young people in Northern Ireland who are disengaged/de-registered from mainstream education. 2)The beneficiaries are those disengaged/de-registered young people, their parents/guardians and other family members. 3)The beneficiaries are those affected by anxiety/depression/impaired mental health as a result of trauma or other adverse life event. 4) The beneficiaries of this service are the young people attending schools and other environments and the professionals who work in them. Q: Is there any private benefit flowing from any of the purposes? Is it incidental and necessary? 1)A private benefit to the tutors might be payment for their services - however as professionals, any income gained would be much lower than could be obtained working in other settings. Tutors are necessary for achieving the charities purpose therefore this is an incidental and necessary benefit. 2)A private benefit to the trustees would be someone connected to them making use of the service but this would only be a very small number of the total beneficiaries and an incidental benefit. 3)The private benefits may be that counsellors/trustees receive training which can be used in other roles - this is incidental and necessary. Another private benefit may be that therapists receive payment for their services, but as professionals, any income received would be lower than working privately or for non-charitable organisations. They are necessary for achieving the charities purpose so this is an incidental and necessary benefit. 4) No unintended beneficiary identified.

What your organisation does

Progeny Teen Support aims to provide emotionally safe environments for young people and adults who are impacted by mental health issues including anxiety and depression arising from trauma and other adverse life events. Connect-Ed is a project of Progeny Teen Support. It is trauma informed post-primary learning community and support hub. We provide

ever-increasing educational opportunities and a safe community for young people impacted by school anxiety and school attendance barriers. We provide emotional support for parents by a community who understand. We offer professional counselling to those impacted by adverse life-events leading to impaired mental health. We offer training and support to schools and other environments used by our youth, on the impact of adverse life events on the mental health of our young people and on the implementation of trauma-informed practices in those settings.
