HISTORY The Crossgar Youth league started life in 1969 as a fun way for young boys and girls from Crossgar to play a game of football during the summer months within structured environment. Since then the league has developed and grown increasing its catchment area opening participation to children from outside the Crossgar Area. VENUE The Crossgar
Youth League currently takes place on a council owned green space in Lislea Drive, Crossgar. The council has granted permission to use this space free of charge for running the Youth League which allows for the marking out of a pitch and the playing of games.(This is only used as a pitch from May to August the rest of the year it is just a green space) CURRENT FORMAT There are 4 leagues within the Crossgar youth league. Little League Pre-school & P1 children Junior League P2 & P3 Minor League P4 & P5 Senior League P6 & P7 Each league consists of 6 teams, and over the course of the summer period each team will play each other twice. Little League and Minor Leagues play on a Tuesday night and Junior and Senior Leagues play on a Thursday night. Matches are 10 minutes each way. There are also cup competitions run for each league which are played towards the end of the league fixtures. These fixtures usually take place during the Youth League festival and the finals and semi-finals of the cup competitions are played at the League Open Day which takes place on the Saturday of that week. FINALS & AWARDS The Youth League has two “big days” which take place annually. 1.Finals Day – this incorporates the finals of all cup competitions along with other events such as cycling skills, bouncy castles, BBQ, Fancy Dress, and a few stalls to entertain the family over the course of the day. 2.Presentation Day – this is where all the leagues winners and runners up are presented with trophies and all registered players receive a participation award. The children all get food and refreshments and entertainment - magician or disco.
