Public benefits
We ensure that our disabled members and other disabled people are enabled to live independent lives and are socially included through: (1) their participation in public life; (2) increasingly improving access to the built environment, transport services and housing; (3) increasing choice and control in the provision of health and social care
services; (4) supporting access to benefits. (1) Participation in public life is demonstrated by disabled members representation on outside boards and other bodies, participation in public events, meeting with political representatives, public officials and service providers and the delivery of Disability Equality Training. (2) Improving access to the built environment, transport services and housing is demonstrated by working with councils on accessible urban regeneration, working with Translink to secure the introduction of audio visual on public buses and working with the Housing Executive to improve standards for wheelchair accessible homes. (3) Increasing choice and control in the provision of health and social care services is demonstrated by approaching South Eastern Health and Social Services Trust and persuading them to establish and develop a Domiciliary Care and SDS Stakeholder Group. (4) Supporting access to benefits is demonstrated by assistance for members and others with applications and raising concerns with DfC. There is no harm arising from our purposes. Our beneficiaries are our disabled members and other disabled people living in or visiting Northern Ireland. There is no private benefit flowing from our purposes.
