Public benefits

The first direct benefit is the enablement of the physical and mental development of each child through play and social activities. This direct benefit is obvious at each session. A second main benefit is enhancing the relationship between adult and child through bonding and shared play and activities. Over a long-term period, direct benefits also

include enhanced social skills and increased speech and social development for each child in attendance. Adults can also benefit form the shared experience and can establish new friendships and peer relationships which also strengthens and enhances community development. Social isolation in such a rural setting is also reduced by providing a welcoming space for young and old alike. Benefits from the group can be demonstrated in long-term friendships that are established at this young age that carry through onto preschool and primary school age children, enhancing transition at each educational level. It is also clear from our continued and expanding attendance levels week on week that a community benefit is in evidence. Indeed levels have been increasing year on year and the number of adults signed up to our WhatsApp secure group is now greater than 50 participants. Additional benefits can be demonstrated in our adults via the volunteering opportunities that arise throughout each session and also as the year progresses. Running of educational and developmental classes for both adults and children (parent & baby yoga, adult yoga, first aid, baby massage, Jo Jingles music classes, volunteer training) strengthen this development. We also have on occasion used both paper and electronic questionnaires to assess our services to enhance and evaluate what we provide. No harm arises from any of the purposes listed for this group. The charity’s beneficiaries are children aged from 0 to 5 years and their parents, grandparents and carers/childminders in our local rural community. There is no private benefit arising

What your organisation does

Our group is a parent, toddler and baby group in the ward of Glenravel. Glenravel being a rural area has limited community resources and poor access to services, with Glenravel ward being ranked 32nd, in the worst 5% in N. Ireland. Our toddler group is the only group of its kind within a 15 mile radius. We provide early years play for the children

of the local area and their families and carers, childminders, grandparents and parents of different ethnic origins. It is a voluntary run group. We maintain funds to provide events and materials to support an ever expanding attendance mainly by the use of charitable grant funders. Our group aims to encourage children to mix with their peers through play and learning, in order to ease the transition to playgroup and school. We also promote positive parenting and give the children in the group the opportunity to learn through play, music, arts and crafts, building self-confidence and improving social skills. We aim to give parents/carers the opportunity to get involved in the community and make new friends. Building these connections will support and enrich their everyday and reduce social isolation. We also provide classes such as infant massage, mother and infant yoga, Jo Jingles, storytelling, local library outreach visits, baby gym sessions, first aid, CPR and promote public health messages such as breastfeeding.
