Public benefits

Bolster Community is a charity working to promote the benefits of the inhabitants of Northern Ireland, without distinction of sex, race or political, religious or other opinions. In particular Bolster Community will work to promote community development and provide advice, advocacy and information through our charitable purpose to support

individuals, organisations and communities to reach their full potential. In Bolster Community we reach out to individuals and communities and provide service, support and information to help find strength, overcome difficulties and build better futures. The public benefits that flow from Purpose 1 are: Enhanced quality of life and sense of wellbeing through improved knowledge of and access to services, skills and support. Improved understanding and connection to supports and services that impact directly on reducing stress, anxiety, loneliness and social isolation. The public benefits that flow from Purpose 2 are: Improved knowledge, collaborative working and information sharing as well as practical support for individuals and organisations which lead to a better shared understanding of health and wellbeing choices. The public benefits that flow from Purpose 3 are: Enhanced active citizenship and involvement in community life, resulting in enhanced outcomes, service delivery and consequently improved quality of life for those who benefit from the work of this charity. The benefits include improved partnership working to provide improved health and wellbeing for the constituents and awareness with and between the beneficiaries and stakeholders responsible for planning services to promote health and wellbeing for an area. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from participants, evaluation and monitoring. The only private benefit flowing from the purposes is where a participant may be entitled to the reimbursement of expenses incurred in contributing to the process or where an individual or trustee accesses training/community education and in turn becomes a facilitator supplying skills back to the charity.

What your organisation does

Bolster Community is an organisation which delivers a range of services and programmes in partnership with other stakeholders to bring about positive change in NI. Bolster Community carries out its purpose by working alongside individuals, families, professionals and communities to help provide improved access to help and support so that

individuals may reach their true potential, regardless of ability, age, youth, infirmity or social and economic circumstance. Bolster Community has grown from a small locally focused charity based in South Down to an outward looking, outcomes focused organisation that is committed to bringing about improved outcomes to a wider range of people and geography. In 2014, to reflect the increasing demand for services, Space-NI rebranded from SDFHI and became much more strategic in its reach and mission. The overarching aim at Bolster Community is that every person has the right to access services and support to reach their full potential. At Bolster Community we have three over-arching areas of work: 1. Supporting parents and children 2. Supporting people & communities 3. Supporting Potential and Community enterprise The organisation provides a range of interventions, programmes, services and activities to enable citizens to reach their full potential
