The direct benefits are that students are supported and represented throughout their time at University. The student experience is enhanced by students availing of extracurricular activities provided by the Students' Union such as volunteering, leadership development and being part of sports teams and societies. These opportunities assist with
their personal development and allow them to meet other students from a range of demographics. The benefits can be demonstrated through a number of feedback mechanisms such as student focus groups and market research. Student achievement in areas such as volunteering and sport is evidenced through formal accreditation such as the Ulster University EDGE Award. The benefits of representative work is evidenced through changes in University processes for example changes to university policies and procedures, curriculum, course design, timetabling and ensuring awareness of certain course costs before students commence a course There is the potential of incurring an injury when playing sport or participating in Students' Union activities. Procedures are in place to reduce these risks by ensuring there is a health and safety policy, risk assessments are carried out and there is personal accident insurance in place. Ulster University students, Ulster University staff, local communities, community and voluntary sector. The seven elected officers who serve a 12 month term are paid a salary and treated as employees. Currently all seven elected officers serve as trustees. This is incidental and necessary.

The Students' Union represents students on the issues affecting them, through a range of means such as academic representation, volunteering, campaigning, lobbying and social engagement. Seven student officers are elected annually by the student body to represent their interests and they do this by attending University meetings to ensure that the
student voice is heard. The Students' Union also works with local organizations, national Students' Unions, local councils, government and the communities where the campuses are based to further the interests of students.
