Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from this Purpose include: safe, supportive homes for people with learning disabilities, increased self-esteem and sense of self worth for people with learning disabilities; new employment skills and opportunities for persons with learning disability; a reduction in social isolation and better links to the local
neighbourhood and its services. These can be demonstrated through feedback from clients and their families, regular inspections with our regulatory bodies (eg RQIA), annual quality reviews by the leader of L'Arche Ireland/Northern Ireland, and monitoring of project outcomes. In carrying out its purpose, L'Arche Belfast actively supports its service users to make their own choices about their lives, and encourages them to engage in positive risk taking. While all risks are assessed and managed as much as reasonably possible, there will always be a small risk that someone may be harmed while engaging in daily activities. However, the risk of harm is far outweighed by the positive impact of supporting people to make decisions about their own life and to pursue their goals and dreams. The charity's beneficiaries are persons with learning disabilities living in Northern Ireland. There is currently no private benefit flowing from the charity's purpose.
