Fighting Words NI provides creative writing workshops and other arts, cultural and literature-related activities for children and young people. The organisation recruits and provides training for volunteers who act as mentors for the beneficiaries. Our principal activity is delivery of free workshops for school and community youth groups, during
which participants work both collaboratively and individually to create their own written story. Throughout the workshop the participants benefit from support and encouragement provided by volunteer mentors. The organisation also facilitates after-school drop-in sessions for individuals and groups, and develops and delivers special projects that bring groups of children and young people together, including cross-community, cross-border work. Fighting Words NI takes part in outreach activities at festivals and community events to raise awareness of our work, and showcases children and young people's writing in a number of ways including publishing their work. Fighting Words NI also hosts events that introduce young readers to authors who write for children and young people. Fighting Words NI works in partnership with other community and arts and cultural organisations, such as theatres and libraries, in the delivery of the Charity's object.
