Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from our purposes are, improved confidence and self-esteem for our children and young adults, better living conditions, greater access to education and opportunities for personal development. Our beneficiaries also enjoy greater independence and reduced levels of isolation and social exclusion. Benefits also include
reconnection to their families for some children and young people, access to financial assistance for families in need and improved health and wellbeing. These benefits are evidenced through the progress that we see our children and young adults making from feedback from our psychologist and coordinator on the progress of our young adults and children and also from the various visits that our trustees make to Romania. These benefits are evidenced through the number of foodparcels and financial assistance that are given to the families and through the visits to ensure that our young people are being treated well and are happy living with their families. Some of the children that have been reunited with their families are living in poverty but we support them regularly to ensure the children are safe and are getting the medical attention that they need. Children, young people and adults who were abandoned as children into state orphanages in particular but not exclusively, those with special needs and/or disabilities and their families There is no private benefit flowing from any of the purposes.
... [more] [less]What your organisation does
To date Sunshine Foundation Romania has built two homes and two supported living apartments for over 30 children and young people rescued from the overcrowded orphanages. As well as providing a decent home and regular health care we ensure that the children have a formal education which they were denied while living in the orphanages. All of the
children now attend schools according to their abilities. We provide supported living and employment for the young adults in our care. Our second hand shop in Harman, provides supported employment and training for some of our young adults. We also work to identify supported employment opportunties for our young adults in various businesses. Most of the children who are/or have been in the Romanian orphanages are not actually orphans but are abandoned. They have been abandoned usually because of poverty or because they have physical or learning disabilities. Some of our young people have been reunited with their families but they are very poor so we support their family to help them support their children.
