Public benefits
The public benefits that flow from the purpose are (i) improved health literacy and educational attainment. (ii) the reduction in levels of long term health conditions and the improved self management of health conditions. (iii) improved independent living and reduction in health inequalities for vulnerable people. (iv) a greater knowledge and
understanding of health improvement. (vi) improved quality of life for beneficiaries. (vii) increased levels of knowledge and transferable skills. These benefits can be evidenced through our internal monitoring and external reporting, regular production of newsletters and video/photo records though social media platforms and robust evaluations of activities. The possibility of harm, for example though injury during physical exercise, is outweighed by the benefit and reduced though our policies and procedures, in particular our induction and training policies for staff and volunteers. Private benefit may be gained by volunteers who could gain employment through the up-skilling provided by Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum, however this is an incidental benefit.

Bogside & Brandywell Health Forum is a community-led project tasked with bringing together many different groups and agencies in order to enhance the health and well being of the people in the Bogside & Brandywell community and wider Western Trust area. Established in 2001, we have an excellent track record in partnership-building towards better
health. We currently manage three projects: Health Forum (Gasyard) delivering a wide range of health improvement programmes including family support, older people, physical activity, mental health, food and nutrition, counselling and young people health promotion; the Drinkthink Project which works to protect children from alcohol-related harm; and Getting On Well which provides health benefit to vulnerable people over 60 years. We currently house the NHIP project, helping to tackle health inequalities throughout the Derry City and Strabane District council area.
