Public benefits

The benefits flowing from the purposes of Kiddies Castle Early Years are that children from 3-5 and their parents/carers from the village of Castledawson and its surrounding district are able to avail of a community facility where they can meet and encourage the children to learn how to play and socially interact with each other. A further

benefit to the community is that this group is open to all inhabitants without distinction of age, religious or political background. The fact that parents from all sections of the community can bring their children to a local community setting gives a benefit both to the children and to the parents. The children benefit from learning to play and interact with other children. The parents benefit from been able to come together thus reducing social isolation in what is a relatively remote rural setting. Parents also benefit from learning the skills related to effectively running a community organisation which teaches them governance skills, fund raising skills, financial management skills and general administration skills. Parents and carers also benefit from the various professional speakers who are invited to attend the group such as Early Years Experts. They benefit from the information provided by these speakers. They also benefit from the mutual support they can give each other. The community benefits from the fact that these parents learn to have a responsible parental involvement for their children and this in turn has a long term benefit for the overall community. Finally everyone involved in the Early Years group benefits from the network that has been created by the organisation, the improved communication that results from this network and the social interaction that the group provides both for the children and their parents. The benefits are measured by the number of families who make use of the facility, the feedback which is obtained from both children and parents on a regular basis and the evaluations which are conducted annually. There is no harm flowing any of the purposes of this group.

What your organisation does

Kiddies Castles Early Years - Established in Castledawson in 1994 - is the only Pre-School Education Centre situated in the Castledawson area. (is ranked in the top 50% of area of deprivation in the Super Output areas of Castledawson 1 and 2 as defined by the NI Multiple Deprivation Measure area 2010). The area has seen little or no regeneration

from the most economic down turn. The Management Committee come from all sectors of the community to work together with the staff on a cross community/cross culture basis. Together we support the holistic development of children of all abilities aged 3 to 5 and offer their parents workshops and courses to enhance their child's development. The staff are experienced, trained in line with the minimum standards and promote high quality development. We deliver the DENI curriculum through observation, planning, assessing - ongoing evaluating, parent interviews and ongoing staff training, we identify and support the needs of each child's early years development.
