Public benefits

1. For the prevention or relief of poverty of Freemasons, their widows or other relatives experiencing financial hardship who are members of lodges under the jurisdiction of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Armagh. The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is the prevention or relief of poverty for eligible individuals experiencing financial

hardship. Those making application to the Fund will be required to provide evidence of financial hardship in the form of a financial statement of income and assets in support of an application. Benefits are demonstrated through feedback from a Lodge Almoner or other Officer involved in making application to the Fund. Feedback will include confirmation that the grant was spent for the purpose for which it was intended. The beneficiaries of this purpose are Freemasons, their widows or other close relatives experiencing financial hardship brought about by (for example) unemployment, bereavement, illness or other emergency situation. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. There is no private benefit to any individual or organisation from their involvement with the Fund. The Fund is administered by Freemasons on a totally voluntary basis. 2. For the benefit of any other Masonic charitable institution as the Provincial Grand Lodge of Armagh shall decide. The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is an increased capacity for those charitable institutions to carry out their charitable activities. The benefit is demonstrated through feedback from the funded charitable institution. The immediate beneficiaries are the charitable institutions receiving funding from the Fund. The ultimate beneficiaries are the individuals and organisations who are the beneficiaries of the funded charitable institution. Is there any harm or potential for harm as a result of the purpose being carried out? There is no harm flowing from this purpose. Does anyone gain a private benefit as a result of the purpose being carried out? Funding is only provided to charitable institutions registered with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland or the Charities Regulatory Authority in the Republic of Ireland. There is no private benefit to any individual or organisation other than that which is incidental. 3. For the prevention or relief of poverty in the Masonic Province of Armagh (comprising the counties of Armagh, Monaghan and Louth) through the provision of financial grants to individuals in need and / or charities or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty. What are the benefits that flow as a result of the purpose being carried out? The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are: (a) in the case of individuals in need, the prevention or relief of poverty brought about by (for example) unemployment, bereavement, illness or other emergency situation. (b) in the case of charities or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty, an increased capacity for those organisations to carry out their charitable activities. How are these benefits capable of being demonstrated? These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from funded individuals, charities or other organisations. Who are the intended beneficiaries of the purpose? The Fund's beneficiaries are: (a) individuals in need. (b) Charities and other organisations obtaining funding from the Fund, and ultimately the individuals and organisations receiving funding from the funded organisation or charity. Is there any harm or potential for harm as a result of the purpose being carried out? Funding is only provided where evidence is provided that there will be no harm flowing from this purpose being carried out. Does anyone gain a private benefit as a result of the purpose being carried out? Funding will only be provided to individuals, charities or other organisations where there is no private benefit other than that which is incidental.

What your organisation does

The practical ways in which the Fund carries out its purposes include: (1) The payment of grants to Freemasons and their families in financial need for example as a result of a sudden and unexpected change of circumstances such as death of a family member or unemployment. (2) The provision of advice and information on the claiming of any state

benefits to which there might be entitlement. (3) The payment of grants to Masonic charities such as the Victoria Jubilee Masonic Benevolent Fund and the Masonic Welfare Fund. (4) The payment of grants to non-Masonic charities such as Teddies for Loving Care, Children to Lapland and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Purposes The Fund shall be used: 1. For the prevention or relief of poverty of Freemasons, their widows or other relatives experiencing financial hardship who are members of lodges under the jurisdiction of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Armagh. 2. For the benefit of any other Masonic charitable institution as the Provincial Grand Lodge of Armagh shall decide. 3. For the prevention or relief of poverty in the Masonic Province of Armagh (comprising the counties of Armagh, Monaghan and Louth) through the provision of financial grants to individuals in need and / or charities or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty.
