Public benefits
The Company’s objects are to advance education in Northern Ireland (“herein after called the area of benefit”) and in particular to: 1. Promote and coordinate arts activities of all kinds by and with disabled people in the area of benefit. The direct benefits, which flow from this purpose, include improved social interaction and creative
opportunities for disabled people in Northern Ireland. These benefits can be demonstrated through feedback from participants and regular evaluation of our services. There is no harm arising from this purpose. These benefits are provided to disabled people in Northern Ireland. A private benefit to paid artists may arise from training in artistic or facilitation skills. Through this training artists gain skills and experience, which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. There may also be private benefit to Board Members, who participate in our programmes, many of whom have a disability, but their participation in our programmes is in line with the purpose and enables the organisation to place disabled people at the centre of the artistic programme. 2. Encourage the integration of people with disabilities in mainstream arts activities. Open Arts engages with disabled people in delivering high quality activities and events across a range of art forms. We do this by promoting artistic excellence and encouraging the participation of people with and without disabilities. Open Arts runs regular participative arts activities and events for disabled people, mainly adults. The art forms
include music, drama, dance, visual arts, and creative writing. Open Arts works primarily with disabled people but it also operates inclusive projects, most notably the Open Arts Community Choir. Each year Open Arts also runs larger scale participatory projects. The purpose of these projects is to enable Open Arts to engage more disabled people. These projects use a variety of art forms, age ranges and usually culminate with an end of project showcase where the work of participants is publically celebrated. Open Arts offers support and advice on many levels. We also advise and support disability organisations to identify / apply for funding and run arts projects.
