1. to protect, conserve and enhance the environment of town and country in Northern Ireland and elsewhere for the benefit of local people, communities, visitors and the public The benefits that flows from this purpose are: A clear focus for the people of Northern Ireland around which communities can work together Cleaner places to live in, work

in and visit Higher standards for visitors and the general public when visiting open spaces Stronger social networks and community cohesion Increased physical activity of the general public Increased resource efficiency The benefits are evidenced through: The number of people actively participating in voluntary programmes eg in cleanups The number of hours they volunteer and number of events they organise The number of groups getting involved in our work The weight of rubbish collected Reduced use of resources and reduced amount of waste generated The number of organisations and locations achieving awards by meeting various criteria Occasional independent evaluation of our programmes The purposes of our charity may lead to encounters between the public and harmful materials such as ordinance or needles, particularly when participating on cleanups. Encounters of this nature are not common and our literature and website give clear advice on how to deal with or avoid such situations. Incidences arising from such encounters are even rarer. Our staff are also trained to respond appropriately in such circumstances. Thus the harm is outweighed by the benefits. The benefit is for everyone living in or visiting Northern Ireland. Beneficiaries include local people, schools, businesses and communities that engage directly in practical activities. 2. to educate and inform the public about the environment generally by promoting awareness of the ways in which the environment is at risk and the ways in which such risk can be minimised The benefit that flow from this purpose are: Increased knowledge and understanding of the general public, Increased knowledge and understanding of elected representatives and young people Changed behaviour of the beneficiaries Increased willingness to get involved in practical action to address the issues Higher profile of the issues in people’s lives These benefits are evidenced through: Level of media coverage achieved Metrics on the levels of changed behaviour eg amount of energy saved, tonnes of waste recycled instead of going to landfill etc. The number of people willing to actively participate in voluntary programmes eg in cleanups The number of groups getting involved in our work The number of organisations and locations achieving environmental awards by meeting various criteria Occasional independent evaluation of our programmes The purposes of our charity may lead to encounters between the public and harmful materials such as ordinance or needles, particularly when participating on cleanups. What your organisation does

Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful is a charity working towards the vision of a cleaner, greener Northern Ireland by running environmental education programmes and awareness raising. Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful is part-funded by the Department of the Environment with the rest of its funding coming from private partnerships and the provision of

services and training to Councils and other organisations. Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful runs a range of awareness raising and volunteering campaigns including Live Here Love Here, Adopt a Spot, BIG Spring Clean and the Clean Coast programme as well as local environmental quality programmes such as international Eco-Schools and Blue Flag programmes, the Seaside Award, Borough Cleanliness Surveys and TIDY Business. Our work focuses on three main areas: • Climate Action • Biodiversity Recovery • Waste Pollution Solutions These are delivered through raising environmental standards, engagement and volunteering and education.

Charitable purposes

The Charity’s objects (“Objects”) are to protect, conserve and improve the environment of town and country in Northern Ireland and elsewhere for the benefit of local people, communities, visitors and the public and in particular to educate and inform the public about the preservation, protection, and improvement of the environment, and the impact of individuals’ own actions on the environment and to promote awareness of the ways in which the environment is at risk and the ways in which such risk can be minimised
