Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from our purposes include ease of access to those who are financially disadvantaged or those who are on long waiting lists which can cause a serious deterioration in client’s mental health and well-being if not seen as soon as possible. Counselling services privately can be extremely expensive, therefore, clients’ who
are not financially well off are in many instances, discriminated against because of lack of finance. In addition, those accessing this service can do so regardless of whatever difficulties mentally they are experiencing, meaning they will not need to wait specifically on a service that solely works with what the client is experiencing. For example, many organisations providing counselling services, only provide therapy within one area, i.e. bereavement, depression, trauma etc, and in many cases, because the services are long distances away and located in either Derry or Belfast, clients, because of mobility or finical constraints, cannot attend leaving them extremely vulnerable. Our charity’s service will allow access to these services locally. These benefits will be, and have been, evidenced through evaluation of every client who attends, and by using clinical outcome routine and evaluation (CORE) initially during assessment. This assessment gathers all the relevant information required by our organisation which includes risk and evaluation. The purposes of our charity may lead to the following harm: through the process of counselling, some clients may experience a rise in anxiety levels initially as they will disclose painful experiences, this however is a normal part of the counselling process, nevertheless, we can show that this harm is outweighed by the positive impact and results clients experience, leading to a much more fulfilling resolution to the clients problems. The charity’s beneficiaries are those who live within the Cookstown and Magherafelt and surrounding areas, and those who have suffered mental health difficulties who are suitable to attend our counselling service. A common characteristic with regards to those who will benefit from our service, are those who have suffered any mental health related difficulty, who wish to talk about their issues or problems. Suitability is established through the use of CORE, this assessment tool is an evidenced based tool which is commonly used throughout the UK to determine suitability specifically to counselling. Finally, there are no private benefits or beneficiaries to our charity.
