Public benefits

The Errigal Boxing club is established to promote the preservation and protection of health by the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure-time occupation in the interests of social welfare for the benefit of the general public in Ballerin and its environs in/of Ballerin (hereinafter called the "area of benefit") without regard to

age, ability, disability, ethnic identity, nationality or religion and in particular: a) educate and assist young people aged 8 to 18 through boxing and other recreational activities so as to develop their physical fitness, mental and emotional capacities that they grow to full maturity as individuals and citizens and that their conditions of life may be improved. The direct benefits flowing from this purpose include a healthier lifestyle, increased exercise, social gathering and better ability from training. We help promote a healthier lifestyle for all. We provide recreational facilities designed to promote the achievement of the purpose of the club. We provide, maintain and equip or assist in the provision, maintenance and equipment of premises and facilities and equipment designed to carry out the purpose of the club. These benefits can be demonstrated by listening to family members, school teachers and if they do other sport we would get feedback as to how fit an individual is. We can show that the risk of harm arising from the purposes of our charity is outweighed by the benefits through the clubs safeguard policies, and members are trained in first aid, two are specifically trained in sports first aid. There are no private benefits flowing from the purpose. All members give up their time free and all are volunteers. No one is paid a wage. The public benefit which flows from these objectives is to increase participation in sport which will enable beneficiaries to learn good habits including exercising, healthy eating and discipline. Sports offer a chance for youth to be challenged and grow, developing confidence in themselves and in turn raising their self-esteem.

What your organisation does

We are a group made up of volunteers who organise and implement a sporting club dedicated to the Olympic Sport of boxing. We use the Errigal Hall which is a small parish hall three nights per week, more often coming up to the time of competitions and championships. We fundraise to buy equipment which includes a boxing ring, punchbags, safety

equipment including gloves and helmets, treadmill, skipping ropes and assorted weights and small fitness equipment. The age group we work with is 9 years to 35 years of age separated into different sessions. We do fitness and circuits as well as boxing tuition. We also spend a lot of time communicating with other clubs organising sparring sessions as well as completing competition entries. We liaise with the Ulster Council re: medical checks and other details and we spend a lot of time fundraising to provide transport to competitions and sparring sessions. We also have to find accommodation if they are at amateur competitions over more than one day. We have a committee which manages the club and a child protection officer and voluntary coaches. Some parents also volunteer with transport and fundraising.
